How to Test Your Touchpad
Test tap / left click
Tap or click anywhere on the page. The left click counter increments each time. Watch for double jumps which indicate touchpad sensitivity issues.
Test right click
Move into the dashed zone and two-finger tap (Mac) or press the right side of the touchpad (Windows). Right-click is captured without the context menu appearing.
Test two-finger scroll
Place two fingers on the touchpad and slide up or down. The vertical scroll counter tracks total scroll distance in pixels.
Test horizontal scroll
Two-finger slide left or right. The horizontal scroll counter detects side-scrolling gestures. Useful for checking if your trackpad supports horizontal scroll.
Track cursor position
Move the cursor and watch X/Y coordinates update in real time. Erratic jumps indicate a dirty touchpad surface or driver issue.
Common Touchpad Problems & Fixes
⚠️ Tap to click not working
Cause: Tap-to-click is disabled in system settings or touchpad driver settings.
Fix: Windows: Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad → enable Tap with a single finger to single-click. Mac: System Settings → Trackpad → Tap to click.
⚠️ Two-finger scroll not working
Cause: Two-finger scroll gesture is disabled or the touchpad driver needs updating.
Fix: Windows: Settings → Touchpad → Scroll & zoom → enable Two-finger scrolling. Mac: System Settings → Trackpad → Scroll & Zoom. Update touchpad drivers via Device Manager.
⚠️ Cursor jumping around
Cause: Palm rejection is too aggressive, touchpad surface is dirty, or driver issue.
Fix: Clean the touchpad surface with a slightly damp cloth. Update touchpad drivers. Adjust palm rejection sensitivity in touchpad settings.
⚠️ Touchpad not responding at all
Cause: Touchpad is disabled via keyboard shortcut (Fn key), driver crashed, or physical damage.
Fix: Press Fn + F7 (or your laptop's touchpad toggle key) to re-enable. Go to Device Manager → Mice and other pointing devices → enable the touchpad device. Restart the laptop.
⚠️ Right-click not working
Cause: Two-finger tap gesture is disabled or touchpad corner click is not configured.
Fix: Windows: Settings → Touchpad → Taps → enable Two-finger tap to right-click. Mac: System Settings → Trackpad → Secondary click → enable two-finger tap.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I test my laptop touchpad online?▼
Open this page on your laptop. Tap or click anywhere to test left click detection. Two-finger tap to test right click. Two-finger scroll to test scroll gesture. The counters update in real time.
Why is my touchpad not clicking?▼
If tap-to-click is disabled, enable it in Settings → Touchpad on Windows or System Settings → Trackpad on Mac. If physical click does not work, the touchpad mechanism may need hardware service.
How do I fix two-finger scroll not working?▼
On Windows go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad → Scroll & zoom and enable two-finger scrolling. On Mac go to System Settings → Trackpad → Scroll & Zoom. Update your touchpad driver if already enabled.
Does this test work with a Mac trackpad?▼
Yes. The touchpad test works with all laptop trackpads including MacBook. It detects tap, click, right-click, and scroll gestures in any browser.
My touchpad works but cursor moves erratically — why?▼
A dirty touchpad surface is the most common cause. Clean with a dry microfiber cloth. Also check if your palm is accidentally touching the touchpad while typing. Adjust palm rejection settings in your touchpad settings.
Can I test touchpad gestures like three-finger swipe?▼
This test covers tap, click, right-click, and two-finger scroll. Three-finger and four-finger gestures are handled by the OS and are not exposed as browser events, so they cannot be tested here.
