Allowed
The browser has stored permission to access this device. When a site requests access, it's granted immediately without prompting the user again.
Denied
The user previously clicked 'Block' or the browser has blocked this site from accessing the device. The site cannot request access again without the user manually changing settings.
Prompt
No decision has been stored. The next time a site tries to use this device, the browser will show a permission popup asking for Allow or Block.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the permission checker show Denied even though I never blocked it?βΌ
Some browsers and OS security policies automatically block camera/mic access for all sites by default. Check your browser's Site Settings and your OS Privacy settings to ensure both layers allow access.
I see Allowed but my mic/camera still doesn't work.βΌ
Browser permissions and OS permissions are separate. Your browser may be allowed, but if Windows or macOS hasn't granted the browser hardware access, devices won't work. See the OS-Level Permissions section above.
Does the permission check send my data anywhere?βΌ
No. The Permissions API only reads stored permission decisions from your browser's local database. No data is transmitted to our servers.
Why is Notifications listed in some permission checkers?βΌ
We check microphone and camera permissions specifically since these are the devices needed for video calls. Notification permission is separate and not required for hardware testing.
I'm in incognito/private mode β will permissions work?βΌ
In incognito mode, browsers don't store permission decisions permanently. The status will show as Prompt on every new incognito session, and you'll need to click Allow each time.
