Webcam Not Detected on Windows – 6 Fixes
Windows not recognizing your webcam? Follow these 6 steps to fix webcam detection issues in Windows 10 and 11.
When Windows does not detect your webcam, the cause is usually a driver issue, privacy setting, or hardware conflict.
Fix 1: Check Windows Camera Privacy Setting
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera
- Make sure Camera access is ON
- Make sure Let apps access your camera is ON
- Ensure your browser is allowed
Fix 2: Check Device Manager
- Press Win + X → Device Manager
- Expand Cameras or Imaging devices
- Yellow warning icon → right-click → Update driver
- Camera missing → Action → Scan for hardware changes
Fix 3: Unplug and Replug (USB Webcams)
- Disconnect the USB webcam
- Wait 10 seconds
- Plug into a different USB port
- Wait for Windows to install drivers
Fix 4: Disable and Re-enable the Camera
- Device Manager → Cameras
- Right-click your camera → Disable device
- Right-click again → Enable device
Fix 5: Update or Roll Back the Driver
- Device Manager → right-click camera → Properties → Driver
- Try Update Driver first
- If problem started after a Windows Update, try Roll Back Driver
Fix 6: Run the Windows Troubleshooter
- Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters
- Find Camera and click Run
- Follow the instructions
