Google Meet Microphone Not Working – Quick Fix

Fix microphone issues in Google Meet: permission errors, wrong device selected, echo, and no sound from others.

Microphone problems in Google Meet are frustrating, especially mid-call. Here are the most common causes and their fixes.

Quick Checklist

  • Refresh the Google Meet page
  • Check that your mic is not physically muted
  • Make sure no other app is using the mic (Zoom, Teams, etc.)

Fix 1: Allow Microphone in Meet

  1. In Google Meet, look for the camera/mic icon in the address bar
  2. Click it → set Microphone to Allow
  3. Reload the page

Fix 2: Select the Right Microphone

  1. In Meet, click the three-dot menu → Settings
  2. Click Audio
  3. Under Microphone, select your actual device (not "Default")
  4. Speak — you should see the sound bar move

Fix 3: Test Before the Call

Use miccheckonline.com/meet-test to run a full pre-call check before joining any Google Meet.

Fix 4: Fix Echo Issues
