Best Webcam Settings for Video Calls in 2025
Optimize your webcam for Zoom, Teams, and Meet. Resolution, FPS, lighting, and angle tips for a professional appearance.
A few adjustments can dramatically improve how you look on video calls.
Recommended Settings
Resolution: 1080p for clearest image. If internet is slow, use 720p.
Frame rate: 30 FPS is standard. 60 FPS uses more bandwidth without visible benefit on calls.
White balance: Auto — adjusts for your lighting conditions.
Lighting Is Most Important
No webcam setting compensates for bad lighting.
Do this:
- Place a light source in FRONT of you, not behind
- A window facing you is free and effective
- A ring light ($20-50) makes a visible difference
Avoid:
- Sitting with a window behind you — creates silhouette
- Overhead lighting only — creates shadows under eyes
Camera Angle
- Camera at eye level or slightly above
- Raise your laptop with books if needed
